Hurricane Otis

Hurricane Otis hit Acapulco on October 25, 2023, with 165 mph winds, and devastated the city of Acapulco. The Mar Azul sustained major damage inside and out but no lives were lost. Employees that could, show up at the resort the following day. They were greeted with disaster—broken windows, glass everywhere, furniture and fixtures strewn all over the place, no power, no gas, and no water. Four of our employees lost their homes – Arturo, Manual, Veronica, and Marbella.

At this point, we have been advised by the insurance company’s engineers that the building is structurally sound. When power and water are restored, further evaluations will be made. Presently, we know that major exterior work will be needed and all the apartments will have to be renovated and refurbished.
